Unable to browse website or the internet

In today's digital world, browsing website is a must. And if unable to browse then it could be an issue especially if you need to get things done. You need a piece of code but unable to browse StackOverflow is quite terrifying for a person developing a simple program.

Others don't care how things work, they just want to get things done and that's it. But if unable to browse a website there could be a lot of things involved.

Here are some possible issues why unable to browse a site or the Internet. Of course the list below is just a small fraction of why unable to browse the Internet.

- Website or URL trying to browse is not available or server that host the website is down or offline

- Website or URL is typed incorrectly on the address bar

- Website is a non www URLs, example website is only http:\\thewebsite.com other than www.thewebsite.com

- Website TLD or Top-Level Domain is incorrectly entered the site ends .net or .org .mil or other TLDs

- Some website is still not using the secure http or HTTPS

  - If browsing like https://unitedworld.com shows an error

  - But if browsing http://unitedworld.com works fine (domain does not exist at the time of this writing it is just used as an example)

  - If the site is still using http, then the full path must be type manually on the address bar

  - As per example above typing unitedworld.com on the address bar will automatically be recognized as https://unitedworld.com

  - The browser will automatically add "s" to http, which will result to https and will lead to an issue since the site is non-secure or unencrypted site

- If entering the site directly with the page name but page doesn't exist anymore will also lead to an issue

  - Example: http://unitedworld.com/climate/zerocarbontechnology.pdf

  - If the PDF or page does not exist anymore even though the main site still exist this will also cause some browsing issues. This would mean that the file or page has been deleted.

- While on VPN may also cause some browsing issues, which is quite common on some VPN setup

- For VPN browsing issues the VPN Interface must be configured manually with a Public DNS

- When unable to browse a specific website it’s better to browse well known sites in order to draw conclusion quickly

- Like browsing www.microsoft.com, www.google.com  www.facebook.com chances for this site to be offline is quite low

- So, if able to browse website mentioned above then the specific website you are trying to reach could be offline or has moved to another domain or is down permanently

- However, browsing www.google.com or other sites mentioned above and it does not show up or load on the browser then it could be a network issue.

- Network issues like your ISP or Internet Service Provider is down or the WiFi or network interface in your laptop has gone south

- Or if within the local or office network, it could be that office network is down or is under maintenance

- One way to check, is to open command prompt and ping any Public DNS

- If unable to reach the Public Pubic DNS then the gateway or the router within the network is unable to reach the Internet

  - Turning off or turning on the router may help (just do this on a home network)

  - If within the corporate network then better to check with the person in charge of your network

- Other issues could be the network admin has blocked the site, or some filtering in place that some sites are not just allowed to be viewed

- Or it could be also that the site you're trying to view is still not available in your region and the site is just displaying some friendly error or message that the site is down

- Of course, there are plethora of reasons why you're unable to browse a site

- A malware or virus could also cause this issue

- Or if you have an anti-virus in your computer and the site is known to be malicious and the anti-virus is just doing its job to keep you away from the site

- There are gazillions of reasons why unable to browse a site.

So, just be patient and try other websites. Don't make up your mind to a single site or be obsessed with a specific site. Explore the Internet and enjoy your browsing life.

Till next time. Stay safe! and keep things up!

Notepad++ convert multiple lines to a single line and vice versa

Notepad++ is an awesome text editing tool, it can accept regex to process the text data. If the data is in a “.csv” format or comma separated values which is basically just a text file that can either be opened using a text editor, excel or even word. Notepad++ can process the contents of the file using regex. Example if the data has multiple rows or lines, and what is needed is to convert the whole lines of data into a single line. Notepad++ can easily do it using regex. However, if the data is on a single line and it needs to be converted into multiple lines or rows then regex can also be used for this case. Here’s an example on how to convert multiple rows or lines into a single line. Example data: Multiple rows, just a sample data. Press Ctrl+H, and  on "Find what" type: [\r\n]+ and on "Replace with" type with: , (white space) --white space is needed if need to have a space in between the data. WMIC get computer name

WMIC get computer model, manufacturer, computer name and  username. WMIC is a command-line tool and that can generate information about computer model, its manufacturer, its username and other informations depending on the parameters provided. Why would you need a command line tool if there’s a GUI to check? If you have 20 or 100 computers, or even more. It’s quite a big task just checking the GUI to check the computer model and username. If you have remote computers, you need to delegate someone in the remote office or location to check. Or you can just write a batch file or script to automate the task. Here’s the code below on how get computer model, manufacturer and the username. Open an elevated command prompt and type:     wmic computersystem get "Model","Manufacturer", "Name", "UserName" Just copy and paste the code above, the word “computersystem” does not need to be change to a computer name. How to check office version from command line

The are quite a few ways to check office version it can be done via registry, PowerShell or VBScript and of course, good old command line can also do it. Checking Windows office version whether it is Office 2010, Office, 2013, Office 2016 or other version is quite important to check compatibility of documents; or just a part of software inventory. For PowerShell this simple snippet can check the office version: $ol = New-Object -ComObject Excel.Application $ol . Version The command line option will tell you where’s the path located; the result will also tell whether office is 32-bit, 64-bit and of course the version of the office as well. Here’s the command that will check the office version and which program directory the file is located which will tell whether it’s 32-bit or 64-bit. Command to search for Excel.exe: DIR C:\ /s excel.exe | find   /i "Directory of"  Above command assumes that program files is on  C: drive. Sample Outpu
